I want to work with CR39 films for neutron dosimetry for the first time. I need help for knowing about 1) the interaction between films and neutron or other particle (which is produced by high energy photons like 15Mev) which make track on films, etching procedure and reading the track.
Do they record the fast or thermal neutron or both of them?

you can use CR-39s from Tastrak (From TASL, UK) or Intercast from Italy. Both qualities are good. Low LET partciles such as electron or gamma do not produce any tracks in CR-39. But neutrons and photoneutrons can produce tracks by recoil of H, O and C inside the detector material. The tracks can be enlarged by 6.25 N NaOH at 70 degree C for about 9 h. Different recipes are also available in literature. Developed tracks can be viewed under an optical microscope.

Hi.. Sorry to miss a point in my last reply. With CR-39 you can usually measure fast neutrons. But if you add a boron radiator in front of CR-39, then you can measure thermal neutrons via (n,alpha) reactions. In this case, you will register alpha tracks, so the etching time will be of less duration (about 4 h).
