We will probably be dealing with COVID-19 for the next two years. The question of "when will we return to normal" must be put aside; the real question is "how do we deal with this situation?"
A "situation" is multidimensional. What aspect is in your mind? Social? Economical? Agricultural? Environmental? Trade? Job? ...... Also, who do you mean by "we"? Scientists? Workers? Farmers? Rich? Poor? .......... But in general, we should follow the health protocols strictly, so at least we won't be the cause of disease spread.
Supply chains will readapt once the first peak has passed. More risk-sensitive and hence shorter and more transparant and redundent supply chains. (No longer sourcing from one supplier far away). Hence we move from lean supply chains to responsive or adaptive supply chains. See also my RG article on impact of COVID19 on procurement and supply chains, feedback welcome!
Dear Dr. Farhad Khorsandi, Dr. Fahim Aslam and Dr. Anne Staal . Thank you for joining the discussion. Your advises are really appreciated. Social distancing policy is only effective in slowing down the rate of infection of Coronavirus until the vaccine is found. However, the vaccine will take 18 to 24 months to produce. During this time, the disease is likely to recur.
As health experts have said, we must follow the principles of hygiene, which is quite true. But we have to change our normal lifestyle. Getting used to the new lifestyle is a challenge.
Yes, it is very likely. The SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus itself may survive for even many more months in a specific current and / or future mutated formula. However, the open question remains whether people will acquire natural specific (acquired) immunity specifically to this virus to a degree ensuring the safety of the population and what importance in this process will have specific methods, medical treatments, including a vaccine, which may be developed in a few months. And if the developed medical therapies significantly accelerate the process of reducing health risk related to the development of the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic, will their effects remain persistent for many years or not due to the fact that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus it will also be able to change under the influence of mutation.
