I am looking for an alternative to kerosene (CMR) and mineral oil (too viscous) used as cooling fluid for IEF and SDS-PAGE electrophoresis performed on multiphor apparatus (flatbed).
Does anyone have an idea, solution and experience ?
Despite the much easier application with kerosene, which characteristics allowed a better dispersion through both the plate and the gelbond, I also used either liquid paraffin or even water. Water is much easier to disperse, however may be tricky especially for long time IEF and liquid paraffin may be more difficult to disperse, especially when the plate is already cool. Furthermore it takes more time to achieve a homogeneous thickness below the gelbond, which my lead to possible smiles.
