Hi, can anyone explain what these symbols suppose to represent? The meaning is there, but i don't know how to interpret further. What impact does this cause to my sequence?

Consensus Symbols:
"*" - means that the residues or nucleotides are identical in all sequences in the alignment.
":" - means that conserved substitutions are observed.
"." - means that semi-conserved substitutions have been observed
Regarding significance, these Symbols are a medium thorugh which degree of similarity in sequence is determined.
Although I am a bit confused about Symbols or sequence analysis. You can use Jalview to analyze consensus sequences.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I am using MultAlin. I am aware of what *,: and . mean. The symbols i was asking about were ! (exclamation mark), $ (dollar sign), % (percentage) and #(hashtag)
