I was wondering the things shown in the title.
As you know, pure Li metal has some ductility and it adhere on other metal such as steel, copper etc. when i put some pressure on Li and other metal layers. anybody knows the mechanism or principle of this? i tried giving pressure (stainless steel roller) on the stacking of Li and copper or stainless steel to have bimetal brazed layers, and the reproducible is every day different. it is like, one day it just adhere with small pressure that i feel like even Li surface is sticky, and the other day it never adhere on the substrate. i tested temperature control and it looks not that much concerned. i also tried tin plating on stainless steel substrate before and Li plating directly on the stainless steel as well. In parallel, i should set up this way.

For adhesive bonding (or any kind of metal-to-metal bonding in general) surface preparation is very important. Two bare (virgin) metal atoms should be brought closer together to their inter-atomic distance to achieve a metallurgical bonding. Presence of any nometallic atoms such as oxygen, sulfur etc will be detrimental.
Lithium will oxidize even in very low oxygen partial pressures. Make sure that your surface preparation is good and you maintain really an inert environment (less than 2 ppm of oxygen and moisture).
If you are plating lithium then you are already maintaining a good inert environment. However, you need to clean the lithium surface free from any organics/salt/oxide layer.
Lithium can only wet (adhere) to a metallic surface if this surface and lithium itself are free of oxide films. Since you are working in air, this task can hardly be solved (lithium oxidizes extremely quickly in air). It would be possible under an argon atmosphere or under a kerosene layer, but only on an oxide-free metal surface. Such surfaces in air only have precious metals: gold, silver, palladium and platinum. For copper and iron, you can try sanding the surface under the kerosene layer and then immediately treating it with lithium. With stainless steel, an oxide-free surface can hardly be achieved at all.
It might be possible to create a structured surface, like a velcro. Unfortunately I've got only German versions of some articles. Google Translate might help.
