Carboxyl-modified group on the surfave of magnetic beads with DNA

I am curious how it actually works with carboxyl group that attach to the paramagnetic beads and the covalent bonding of them with DNA when the purification of DNA using paramagnetic beads is used.

Does anyone know what causes the DNA attach to the beads despite the fact both of the molecule has negatively charge in the pH near neutral? and will the conformation of DNA change due to this interaction?
