I was planning to use a framework analysis approach for my data analysis but have transcribed in NVivo and will use NVivo as a tool within the analysis stage. I can't quite see how Framework could be done in the programme though and wondering whether it lends itself to certain other approaches better?
All of the main qualitative analysis programs use the same basic "mark and retrieve" approach. In other words, you begin by applying codes, which then gives you to ability to search for codes and combinations of codes. Note that the codes you apply can come from either a pre-existing codebook, or can be derived "inductively" during the coding process itself.
The various program do differ somewhat in how easy it is to organize a "hierarchical" set of codes and sub-codes, and I don't have enough experience with NVivo to comment on what it offers in that regard.

Alternatively, you could just conduct the initial coding in Nvivo, then use a basic software package such as Excel or Word to create your framework matrices.
Agree entirely with previous comments especially Neil Simcock. I used Nvivo in my doctoral research to conduct initial coding in Nvivo then MS Word to create and explore framework matrices - it is very rewarding to see the raw data 'mutate' and grow into meaningful chunks. Nvivo, like many software packages, offers a light touch or use of a whole range of tools with which to manipulate annotate and explore your data.
