In many newspapers and magazines this statement has been published. A lot of reasons have been given. Please add your personal comments on this topic. I apologize if I am hurting anybody by asking this.
Dear Shankhadeep and all, it may be more accurate and inclusive to call this era an 'era of science'. I see that many sciences are thriving and new knowledge is growing exponentially in many science disciplines (Physics, astrophysics, astronomy, molecular biology, etc). Besides that science and humanities are collaborating in multidisciplinary studies and multidisciplinary research. Have a look at this link. Tell me what you think, thanks.
Yes, I think so. A lot of severe swept the world, which called for scientists to address these things medical and biological researches in conjunction with progress of technology. Do you think so too?

I think it is too early to call this era as "an era of bioscience". Many topics are still under investigation although a good amount of knowledge has been added. Many "breakthroughs" are needed before labeling this era as such. When the 50s era was described as plastics age, there was real fantastic progress by great scientists such as the Italian (Natta), the German (Ziegler), and the American (Flory). At the end of the 50s & in the 60s, it was the space era which included the first human landing on the moon by the Americans (Armstrong & Aldrin) in 1969. We still wait for the biosciences to find remedies for variety of diseases (including common cold) with my apology if you find this statement improper.
The growth of the bioscience industry cluster also boosts North Carolina’s supply chains that support this industry. The result is that the total employment impact of each bioscience industry job in generating additional jobs in North Carolina is growing—in other words, with greater cluster development comes rising employment multipliers across North Carolina’s economy.
What journals write is not that really matters. The term may be even a slogan stressing that biosphere because of not biological/ecological human approach got in a dangerous situation. The word bio became like a quality mark expressing the human desire to demand and accept what people think natural in a world where artificially produced dangerous food, beverage, cosmetics, clothing, housing opportunities are around us.
Thus, the word bioscience does not mean that biological and ecological processes are in the centre of our thinking. People should first learn to behave correctly with nature. Unfortunately, we are still in the age of unintelligent plundering of natural richness. We should be honest partners of nature: live and let live is the essence of a partnership! Bioscience does not mean that maintaining biosphere is the aim, it means merely that profit can be increased using biological processes.
@ Sharon, The information is from the the published document in 2012 Evidence and Opportunity: Impacts of the Biosciences in North Carolina . I see this as the great benefit of RG, to cross check the information published. Throw us more information on this, Please .
More broadly we are living in the era of science. Just imagine TV is a luxury item roughly 30-40 years before. Now we are able to watch it in our mobile. Each and every moment of our life is controlled by some sort of materials obtained from Science revolution.
The book, Metabolic Engineering in the Post Genomic Era (Horizon Bioscience), brings together all the recent, most important breakthroughs in this exciting field.
Overlapping of various sciences is the real title of this era, but bioscience is the trigger. We hope not exceeding the suffering of the world, but to serve humanity and without a scientific exploitation of the platforms to destroy the world.
