Can we detect apoptosis by Annexin V FITC in rat brain?

I want to detect apoptosis in rat brain after ischemia by using Annexin V FITC with Fluorescence Microscope. Can I do so?

Please suggest protocol for brain tissue preparation for detection of apoptosis.
