I had conducted an in vitro experiment to test the efficacy of different chemical fungicides agains the Sclerotium rolfsii pure culture. I observed that some chemicals completely inhibited the formation of sclerotia whereas some did not. Upon counting the number of sclerotia, media plates poisoned with the same level of a chemical fungicide showed variation in terms of the number of sclerotia produced. Is sclerotia number unpredictable under similar culture conditions too? Or could there be other reasons?

)Sometimes sclerotia can be induced by very short period of certain temperature or by light treatment (5-10 min). Some small variation in temperature can occur inside your incubator, and it will change the sclerotia formation too.
