The Interdependence of states all over the world especially in recent times is not in doubt. This has led to the prolifications of many cooperative and collaborative efforts among states to achieve certain objectives that were either to pursue by states independently. Some of them are in the form of a pact, agreements, charters among others. Also, many international organisations have and continue to evolve over time. But despite these developments, it seems to achieve global peace and development has been a mirage. So how can the nations of the world get out of this mess.?
Can the entire world experience peace and development at the same time?
It is very challenging but not impossible if we - human beings have the united will & commitment to do so. If someone don't recognize there is such a need, world peace & development will not happen. Even though they happen at the same time, it will not last long because we human beings are constantly changing (change is constant) unless the united will & commitment still stay the same.
That would be fine if it is so, however, it is nearly impossible. As far as the present generations can see, there would always be disputes and conflicts in the near (and far, maybe) future, but the hope, or imagination that one day the whole world would live in peace and harmony is paramountly beautiful.
I think it is possible for the world to experience lasting peace and development at the same time but may be not yet in our life time, nor in the life time of the next generation and the next and the next. It is possible only in God's time.
well point raised by you. The best way to we all start to focus on humanity, love and care for others and above all we start to see the root of humanity.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
See, what "Ban Ki-moon" had wished for the entire world to experience peace and development:
"I look forward to strengthening the U.S.-U.N. partnership and working closely with Secretary of State Kerry towards our shared goals of peace, development, and human rights."
Dear Kayode,
I agree with Hazim and George. It would be wonderful but is horribly difficult to obtain due to egoism of politicians.
Science and technology have worked wonders in many fields, but the basic human problems remain. There is no doubt about the increase in our material progress and technology, but we have not yet succeeded in bringing about peace. we are in danger of losing touch with those aspects of human knowledge towards honesty and altruism. I am sure that most of people share my concern about the present worldwide moral crisis and will join in my appeal to all humanitarians and religious practitioners who also share this concern to help make our societies more compassionate.Universal humanitarianism is essential to solve global problems; We must remember that the different religions, ideologies and political systems of the world are meant for human beings to achieve happiness. We must not lose sight of this fundamental goal and at no time should we place means above ends; the supremacy of humanity over matter and ideology must always be maintained. Every major religion of the world - Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism - has similar ideals of love, the same goal of benefiting humanity through spiritual practice and the same effect of making their followers into better human beings.
Philadelphia, PA
Dear Asaju,
I believe the fundamental limitations are political, or one might say, a lack of sufficient political competency. Political and social attitudes tend strongly to be centered in our background socialization, which is distinctive from one place and one culture to another. The subsequent local adjustments we make to each other are also treated quite conservatively, and they resist quick expansions or needed elaborations. The changes required to meet new challenges and problems come slowly, and many (doing quite well, thank you), simply will not concern themselves with them. In the meantime, there is much need of tolerance, moderation, and self-restraint.
Without self-restraint, there is no virtue, and political competence is a virtue often in short supply. Forcing change on local or regional cultures, to quickly accommodate broader relations, may only serve to destabilize the much needed, existing political settlements and arrangements. Political and social change requires careful consideration of its likely effects, though, of course, "fools rush in, where wise men never go."
H.G. Callaway
Peace can be approached at different levels, and everywere it has problems to be. I can talk of peace at football. The followers of each club are a bad religion. The followers of a club must be separated by police to avoid conflict. If the followers of clubs manage to encontre themselves this will be like war.
Everywere Jesus appeared he said: "Peace be with you." Maybe peace will be attained with the end of times with the return of Jesus.
In my opinion, it is not possible with the trend of events in the world. It would have been possible if some countries do not derive some benefits from causing and encouraging war and underdevelopment in other countries. .
Nations have to give up on the idea that they can control others for their own gain. As a person in the free world we must let others decide what to do. That is not to say let them kill each other over problems but what it comes to politics they must govern themselves and we must let them. If they are educated they will become a great part of the world society. If they are ignorant they will continue to kill one an other over power......
All people are equal when they have knowledge and understanding...
It is impossible that entire world experience peace and development at the same time. Differences between peoples and countries are countless. We can take example of a family having blood relationship, but still each one has their own fate. Some experience more peace and development and some remain unsuccessful
No, not at all, as different attitude people live in different areas of the world.
Dear colleagues, the entire world experience peace and development are different at the same time, so exists as theory until now ... let's beleive and hope to be part of the scientific domain as soon ... and ... and then in reality, will be in normal life for every person, everywhere that lives and works or learns ... so, I thing so ... I am sorry ... but ...
Before answer it more important to know "Whom we refer as Peace and what is actually Development stands for" .
If we try to answer this question without defining these two terms the answer will stands meaningless.
Dear Kayode, at this point in time, so-called developed countries are bringing in some resources and products from other countries that cannot purchase other resources and products they need from those developed countries. We are living in a state of imbalance of resources: those countries that must sell are less developed than countries that can buy. Underdevelopment brings with it political and social unrest for obvious reasons. Hunger and peace cannot get along; poor education and peace cannot get along; lack of fuel and materials to go around and build houses and other buildings cannot get along with peace. Capitalism is showing its real face because too many people around the world are questioning its "advantages" in view of the swiftly widening divide between rich and poor worldwide. Suddenly we see the devastation of Indonesia's forests, the microcephaly of newborn children in Brazil due to corporate selfish wrongdoing; the Fukushima "accident" that has spilled radioactive water into the Pacific because of reckless management and disposal of fuel and process water... These and so many news and informations are so horrendous that most of the population feels absolutely forsaken. Corporate power is faceless, incorporeal, phantasmic. How can we humans act on the face of such immateriality? Can there be peace when we must fight such disembodied evil?
Best regards, Lilliana
The following shows Article 9 of the Constitution of Japan, which declared the renunciation of war. Today (May 3, 2016) is the 69th anniversary of this constitution. I wish that such an article of the constitution will be adopted all the nations of the world to realize peace and development of the entire world at the same time.
CHAPTER II
RENUNCIATION OF WAR
Article 9. Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.
In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized.
The Senkaku Islands (尖閣諸島 Senkaku-shotō?, variants: 尖閣群島 Senkaku-guntō[6] and 尖閣列島 Senkaku-rettō[7]) are a group of uninhabited islands controlled by Japan in the East China Sea. China claims the discovery and ownership of the islands from the 14th century, while Japan had ownership of the islands from 1895 until its surrender at the end of World War II. The United States administered the islands as part of the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands from 1945 until 1972, when the islands returned to Japanese control under the Okinawa Reversion Agreement between the United States and Japan.
Despite the diplomatic stalemate between China and Taiwan, both governments agree that the islands are part of Taiwan as part of Toucheng Township in Yilan County. Japan regards the islands as a part of the city of Ishigaki in Okinawa Prefecture, and acknowledges the claims of neither China nor Taiwan but has not allowed the Ishigaki administration to develop the islands.
We will see if Japan will be able to apply its Article 9. in this dispute with China. China do not have an Article 9.
It is not possible so long as self interests rule. If as individuals we fail to reconcile in our inner selves, how can there be collective peace and tranquility?
Dear Dr. Kayode Asaju,
The mandate of UNESCO’s originated with the slogan "Peace for Development and Development for Peace". Its fundamental mission is the transformation of the culture of war and violence to a culture of peace and coexistence, mainly through education in general and through values of education in particular.
Peace and development should always go hand-in-hand. Otherwise, the development will have to be carried out in a rather piece-meal basis. Such a development is not a progress at all- it is deemed to be digress. It is illogical to think of disturbance on one side and development on other side.
Yes, the entire world can experience peace and development at the same time. Both, peace and development depends on the political decision.
yes entire world can experience peace and development if we ready to distribute our resources equally and ready to give equal chance to each every country we will not fight for power and we will decentralised power
Peace is at hand of each one, development is organizational. The first one births in the heart of the peoples, the second one is the result of cooperative works. Without peace there is not secure development, and without development the peace could be fragile.
Has there ever been a time like this since the biblical Adam and Eve?
So it will never come. We are stupidly at war with everything nature has bestowed upon us. Even so we live as if we will be able to carry the world with us when we die.
Roland,
Evolution is not the survival of the most fitted. Don't we live in society? Society by definition is a solidarity that promote the survival of a collectivity and this does not mean the survival of the most fitted. Justice is an opposition of the brute force. Our problem is that we are not able to be a global society and become civilizized globally and thus promote a common survival of all. We are not a ''We''.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,

It is desirable that both the developed and those that are underdeveloped or developing, achieve at some point in the evolution of spice "Homo sapiens" (and geological changes in our planet within thousands of years) the desired equality in peace and development.
By the time the developed countries make war on underdeveloped (which incidentally have less political, financial and war economy power) preventing the peace of these peoples and limiting their ability to recover their limitations (quality of life, physical and emotional health, healthy economy, education and democratic governments, etc.)
In conclusion simultaneous Peace and Development for everyone, it is an ideal or a utopia.
regards
Sincerely
Dr. Jose Luis Garcia Vigil
We are not a "We"... I consider that a good news... Development depends on incorporating alien element over time... For example, this Researchgate community, has anyone encountered 'deleted' user, and wondered about how that 'deletion' was about ? Was it self-exile or ex-communicate? Just curious.
Not a mess: it is reality. It will advance collaborative mechanisms, mutual assistance, understanding and tolerance, disarmament, but war is a group manifestation of the struggle for survival of human groups, and even other advanced primates, so there is always a tendency to violent confrontation between groups.
Its not. Development of everything needs changes and changes can cause disturbance in peace as in political settings. One party develop policies and others oppose them in order to weaken their image in front of public. Then How peace and development can occur at same time?
Economic development through cooperation and collaboration, as well as political agreement will not bring peace in the entire world, unless there is holistic development of the entire population of the world. Holistic development includes, physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual development, which will make everybody to understand the real meaning of peace and existence. Today, we don't find peace even in the developed countries.
Jaharkanti,
The problem is that the whole world economic system and finantial system is based on maximizing return on investment and discourage investment in very long term type of efforts that pay in the long run: investment in education of the youth, investment in an education not about the practical only but about cultures, investment in long term scientific projects , etc. All the government are less and less able to collect tax from the main finantial actors and can invest less and less in the infrastructure and the long terms investement and the private actor won't do it because of the imperative of fast return at minimum risk. Modification to the economic system are needed and new mode of taxation of themain economic actors are necessary.
The progress of technologies and particularly the world wide communication networks linking the whole productive world have become extremely efficient at producing. Much less humans can produced much more than in the past. Less and less people are necessary in principle to produce all the good related to basic necessity, shelter and food and the good of infrastructure for producing these. So in principle all the extra people whose work is not necessary for producing these basic commodities should work towards longer term type of work as I mentioned above. The labor resource are there, why not the capital? This is the problem, right now the capital is available only for the short term high return investments. The problem is not one of lack of money but of the structuration of capital investment. The capital not necessary for the basic commodities should be made available for the long term investment and if we would do that every single human being on this planet would have plenty of work to do within the limit of the capital available if we decide to use the capital for our long term future.
Our choice is very simple, either keep a large part of the labor uneducated, unequipped, under bad sanitation and medical care and so keep production low and maximize the capital in the short term for a few or invest in the general infrastructure, sanitation, medical care , eduction, arts and get everybody busy and think long term.
see the link, 10 animal mother die after giving birth... I thought this piece of info is relevant to your entire world question, no? Defying natural instinct is our human society's aim or not?

@Kayode very nice of you to bring such a nice topic Development n Peace together.
Development is a gradual process. It will not come in a single night. Certainly we see development in all countries. Developing countries/Under-developed countries takes their own time. Let it be anything first it needs resources later comes all.
If comes to 'Peace' a difficult question to answer. As George mentioned the 'Cynical attitude' exactly suitable/appropriate word for the current sitution that prevailing in Middle East. It is not just enough to make Pacts, Acts, Organizations should follow/enact them.
Pray for PEACE should Prevail All over the World
So getting together 'Development n Peace' is how PLEASANT to hear.

Without power of dominance and capturing others, Development and Peace never co-exist. USA is the best example. More popular-concept have to be justified with science and reality.
All development processes according to the perspectives of Socio-Physicochemical Theory are entropy driven, which suggests that they are accompanied by wastage of energy and fixation of material into material into unavailable forms; as such they are not sustainable. Peace on the other hand is the reverse of processes that are not sustainable. It requires the development processes to meet the principles of sustainability in letter and spirit.
Further to my observations on the subject, I am attaching an Abstract of the paper that is available on ResearchGate site

Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
The United Nations was founded 70 years ago, at the end of World War II. Since that time, Japan has steadfastly walked the path of peace and rebuilt a nation. And, since the mid-1950s onward, we have actively worked to share our experience of development with other nations, especially in Asia.

Dear Dr. Kayode Asaju
To reasearch on peace we must be aware of processes of conflict, and preconditions for peaceful resolution and peace-building. Whereas, development research is concerned with poverty, structural inequalities, reasons for underdevelopment, and preconditions for positive development. Peace and development research provides a unique environemnt for studying the relationship between conflict and poverty/underdevelopment—resource scarcity, structural inequalities—as well as between peace and development in positive terms.
Yes we can, every country wants it. However to bring every country to a point of start, there are vested interested groups which do not allow it to happen.
The world is in a mess; How can the world get out of its mess?
This is a relevant question that every honest person ask irrespective of where does one live.
Everywhere people are taking about the environment mess, which has become a fashion!
But the worst of the 'world mess' is social mess! Society is disintegrating (at local, regional, national and international level); actually the 'environment mess' is an after effect of the 'social mess'
People are becoming individualistic (so do nations too) and indifferent to common issues!
People always talk - discuss from morning to evening - just for the discussion sake; nobody is influential to implement anything!
There is no sincerity in implementing any decisions; every one think that the decisions are somebody else to implement
People get leaders whom they deserve!
The world society has deteriorated to a great extend. But, I am optimistic!
The hope is in the teachers.
If teachers emerge to influence the youth to the right path, the world has an escape!
I wish to hope that teachers will emerge!
This is only possible if we adopt a spiritual approach where we all feel connected rather than separated from one another. However, this is an idealistic goal since the powers of good and evil inside man cannot be balanced. As long as evil wins over goodness, wars rage on and international peace looks as far fetched as ever.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Let us look at it from different angle (i.e. loosing peace and development):
For many observers, a child who has known nothing but war, a child for whom the Kalashnikov is the only way to make a living and for whom the bush is the most welcoming community, is a child lost forever for peace and development. I contest this view. For the sake of these children, it is essential to prove that another life is possible.

Dear Dr. Asaju,
As long as the major concerns of every country involve sovereignty, national interest, and national security, I doubt if any cooperation and collaboration would be solid enough to bring peace and development on the same scale. Maybe we can only hope that the combined efforts would minimize aggression and war in and between states as well as achieve a better balance between the haves and the have-nots.
Sincerely,
Cameen
Resp. Dr. Asaju,
Scholars of International Relations are working on Peace and Conflict Studies. I see a gap in the Concept of 'Development'. According to Oxford dictionary, it means 'become or make larger or more advanced.' There is another meaning that applies here to attain peace is 'treat a film with chemicals to make a visible image.' It requires a visible image of each perspective that prevails to view the events in IR.
Dear,
Thank you for inviting.
In my opinion, in the current moment, we are far from meeting that!
Peace is the greatest weapon for development that any person can have. ― Nelson Mandela
Human society has been elevated for peace and development in deserve. But the reality is against it due to the political and business world to capture the highest power and wealth, -is the major abstraction for the uniform development. The most 'aspirated' world is just political liar -'gain' against peace. The so-called development of administration is 'Democracy' which is the other mane of 'Corruption' to boost killing-fear among common people, not to protect against corruption or wrongs. The rich-world is in the major projector of such a peacelessness.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Equality and development will not be achieved however if peace is not understood from Nation's' and citizens point of views.
Yes, most of the country disturb not due to whole country but just because of the greedy and hungry of power. Only development and prosperity is the key to grow together, help together.
Development and peace at the same time in the entire world? Every nook and corner of the world has different problems, political systems, social systems, economic systems, administrative systems and development is an interplay or interrelated to these systems. So peace and development can not be uniform or at the same time all over.
Peace and development is the expectation or mankind. But it is hampered from the competitive capitalistic development which is the major cause of turmoil world. Of course, there is scientific measures for "Peace & Development''. We, the academicians are overall with a disease of 'earning better' from this most corrupted economic system; we never argue, or demand the scientific development. It is mathematics that "benefit from extra-gain, never moves against the source that is Corruption". Mentally we are paralyzed of this very demand.
According to Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche :
1." The war for the state is the same need as a slave to society".
2. The concept of the progressive nature of the development is erroneous idea.
The economic development does not improve our society.
The pursuit of wealth requires new human and material reserves. This process may lead to war. The more civilized the world becomes the more money is spending on arms. Perhaps, that the material development of society reinforces the contradiction between countries and social and religious groups in different countries. If terrorism is the war, then the modern terrorism is a product of uneven development.
Peace is necessary for development, but unfortunately, some people/countries benefit from war or conflict by producing and selling arms, drugs, etc. This is one of the reasons why peace and development seem to have eluded the current world.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
One of the gaps in our international development efforts is the provision of global public goods - that is, goods or conditions we need that no individual or country can secure on their own, such as halting global warming, financial stability and peace and security.
---- Anna Lindh
Peace is not cheap, other than it is much less expensive than wars and infinitely more humane.
The existing conflict on the basis of political and economic interest is not easy to solve in the near future. The super power are still struggling for energy sources and strategic areas with no close agreement. Therefore, peace is still a far reach dream.

SM Najim
''So how can the nations of the world get out of this mess.?''
The mess seemed to have existed from the origin of humanity. Wars with stones and stick, arrows and blades managed to control our numbers. But a full war witht he current nuclear weaponery would surely return us to the stick and stone war. It does not seem to be a good idea but one we invent billion in every years. We did not even managed to control our numbers in spite of all the birth control chemical available. We have spread around from Africa a while ago and now we are back in the global village squeezed onto each other and with the old enlightened promess of progress through science and technology sounding totally empty when 68 individuals have as much as the 2.7 billion poorest humans. They own most of all of this technology and all of its promesses and not much for the rest of us, only for those of us helping these 68 guys. How to get out of this mess? Maybe we should take what these 68 guys own and restitute it to these 2.7 billions.
We cannot experience peace and development under the present status quo because the world civilization is based on human rights violation and social injustice. Even if we distribute all over a 3D-printer of US$ or deutschemark or the masked euros, the situation will be the same. Human to become human needs education; there are epigenetic properties that influence human character, there are social and linguistic marks that affect a nation development for generations.
Human is part of the environment, there is only one system and we are part of this system. How did the French revolution start? Remind some elements, social injustice, the intrusion of capitalism into everyday life, an economy in crisis, American Revolution and some ideas. The world today experiences a dramatic social injustice, there is a huge debt because of this injustice, Europe is under demotion at all levels because of this injustice, USA gets in the last step of a social metallaxis that will be the start point of a new type of change, the ideas are always present. Yes, the asymmetry so to establish equilibrium in any system can be achieved with peace and development in the same type for all.
Why you relate this..peace inner one..development is external..clean yourself..you will be peaceful at state of life..
Yes, this is what is happening in the last centuries in general terms.
the entire world has been receiving incrementally less peaceful – sharply bucking a tendency that had seen a global move away from conflict since the end of the Second World War.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,

Peace and sustainable improvement go hand in hand and failure to speak to this reality means we will live in a more violent planet in future.
“Can the entire world experience peace and development at the same time?”…
This depends on many conditions: first we must introduce the human rights (Europe’s behavior during the refugee crisis shows that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is just a sheet of paper)
Then we must make sure that there are equal possibilities for everyone – this would require the abolition of money. If that works – the abolition of money is a challenging and risky task – we can start to think about development.
Development must be sustainable in order to make sure that the world stays peaceful. I would suggest the following links for details:
https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_Development_Sustainable_How_can_the_Social_Development_be_Sustained
https://www.thevenusproject.com/
To keep that stable, we will need new forms of government – recent democracies have the tendency to be self destructive as soon as nationalistic parties appear. There should be introduced much more responsibility (and this responsibility should be more direct) in order to make it working. Recent governments are too slow and too static to solve (or even understand) the problems in our ‘accelerating’ world.
One possible structure of a flexible government I gave in the following post:
https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_it_possible_to_replace_government_by_something_else
I hope that someone can add some other possibilities so that there is a choice. A very important aspect is that the power of nation-states must almost vanish – the goal must be a (flexible) world-government. As you can see it is a long way to go because we need an almost ideal world to realize peace as well as development at the same time. So, let’s work towards it:

Andreas
From my perspective the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an aspirational attempt by the global community which is worthy of note in this respect. Different values, beliefs, cultures etc clearly exist but state parties can promote universal values such as respect for life, as well as the reduction of poverty and inequality, for the social, economic and environmental development of our World and future generations.
Depends on what sort of development you are referring to; social or economic?
