Most African countries are Socio-economically, and politically backward. The major reasons adduced for the above is bad leadership .Observers are however of diverse views on which aspect of the leadership is bad.
I think that African leaders have the capability when they have a determination for integrity, independency of decission making, a sense of patriotism and loyalty to the people.
The bane of under development status of most African countries is centred around bad leadership stemming from corruption from every sector of the economy.
I utterly agree that not all of these African leaders are bad. Some are actually influential and bring positive change in the life of the citizen and the country as a whole. I know of Nelson Mandela of blessed memory and at present Paul Kegame also as rightly mentioned by Dr. Paul Olusegun Bankole.
I am 100% in agreement with your thought. The capability, the human and mineral resources, intelligence and favourable climatic condition are all their to promote economy development and stability. But lack of moral will lead to corruption, selfishness, pride and negligence habit of our leaders.
I disagree. We cannot say that all African leaders lack morality. I believe that there are many factors which should be taken into consideration to judge whether this or that leader lacks morality and capability or not regardless race, colour, language and religion. There are many successful african leaders such as Mandela.
Indeed, many people in Africa do not have trust in their leaders. This is because most often than not leaders tend to abuse power for various reasons. It is often said by many that African leaders put first their personal interests than anything else. It is obvious that their self-interest may not be the interest of the public at large. Corruption, nepotism, egoism and abuse of power are the major characteristics of African leaders.
The world is in "survival " state and some rich people are acting like animals; hunting poor people around the planet to take whatever they possess . Africa is full of natural resources but lack organized governments . I think that those who are abusing and trying to corrupt African leaders are the real immoral. However, this life is really nothing for God. He is watching carefully and everyone will get what he/she deserves in the real life.
It might be once upon a time that got the geographical name 'Dark Continent'. Now I do not think so. African continent has rich natural resources that no other continents have. There were grate leaders too Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan etc. etc. I got the attached stats when checked. Some of my friends are settled/working in African countries Ethiopia, Kenya etc. I have good well educated and settled friends from African countries now and when I was in Europe too. Leader ship qualities may vary from person to person. Some are great some may not be up to that extant.
This statistic does not reflect in the standard of living of majority of the populace in Africa. Check out statistic or index on socio- economic welfare of the people in most countries in Africa. Also, GDP growth in Africa is a wrong yardstick for measuring development . The so- called rich natural resources is a curse rather than a blessing.
Most African leaders lack political will to effect a change. I remembered when General Idiangbo took over power in Nigeria. Within six month, there was order of doing things which you must not violate.
