I am interested in performing FEA on solidworks, however I am no proper knowledge of this subject. So how am I suppose to learn FEA so that I can perform it on a software
Finite element analysis is a huge topic. You need to choose what you want to model using the finite element method. If the issue is clear, try downloading the article about your problem and see what method they used to model the problem. After that, you can research this method on Youtube or other resources
I was wondering, what you want to "learn" about Finite Element Analysis. Now-a-days there are many excellent commercial and open-source software where you don't need to "learn" finite element, but how to run and interpret the results. Its a bitter truth, but "Learning" Finite element can be a waste of time!
.
Learning FEM also have different aspects, for engineers, its generally all about Solid and they generally mean by "Learning" FEM is "Learn the procedure that can give you result" (learning how to form Shape function, assembly matrix etc). Its more like learning d(x^2)/dx give you 2x, but you will have no idea what the d(x^2)/dx even mean!
.
But, the FEM is broad! Its just a method to Solve Partial differential equations. The Structural dynamics equation is just a very sexy equation to FEM, specially to the Galerkin's method. That's why people use that. But this can be also used for Thermal, Fluid, Electromagnetics, just for PDEs!
.
To learn FEM "really" requires understanding of Calculus of Variation. Its not so straightforward as FDM or FVM. The road is quite bumpy! But, if you really get that, it will open your eyes in another level (at least did for mine! I always try to solve any problem come into me using the Calculus of variation or Minimizing the residual!).
.
I have tried to document my thought process in this write up. Chapter UGLY FACE OF FINTE ELEMENT METHOD: GALERKIN'S METHOD
.
If you do not understand anything from it that is my fault! I will improve the writing 10 folds when I have time.
Actually sir since I am a second year UG student I wanted to have an excellent CV till third year so that I could get a good internship. For that I go through some linked in profiles where various students with good Certificates have the CSWP-Solidworks , courses on FEA etc.
That's the whole crux regarding why I want to learn FEA.
However I am confused whether to learn it directly on software or complete it's theory first.
Hi Srajan Diks, if I were you I would probably invest my time on learning how to work with the available software (Abaqus or Solidworks, I prefer Abaqus though!). But, its your choice!
