I have MRSA organism and after few months changed to VRSA and when we analyzed the existace of van A,B genes they were not found. Precise which mutations occured and what work should be done to study this phenomena on a molecular level
The emergence of vancomycin-resistant S. aureus (VRSA), is due to acquisition from Enterococcus spp. of the vanA operon, carried by transposon Tn1546, resulting in high-level resistance.
Three classes of VRSA have emerged that differ in vancomycin susceptibilities: vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (VISA), heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (hVISA), and high-level vancomycin-resistant S. aureus (VRSA).
To be full VRSA, S aureus should has VanA, VanB. VanC, VanD, etc...., otherwise any S. aureus has only one or two genes of Van should be considered as Partially VRSA (VISA).
