Just as information, I think you can use PMOdynamics software, a Persian 2D model for simulating waves and tsunami.

You need to be careful when using the MIKE 21 HD FM model for tsunamis, in fact DHI recommends using the standard rectangular grid model due to possible numerical dispersion. This means that if for instance you model a tsunami generated in Japan and your resolution is coarse until you get to your area of interest in the USA, then your tsunami will not reach your area, but due to numerical dispersion. You will need a very fine mesh all your model area, so that it is not worth using the FM. BUT, if the seismic event is close to your area of interest, then you can use the FM model. You will need to do some test to see if your FM grid is doing the job.

The MIKE 21 Earthquake toolbox can generate the surface displacement for the initial conditions of your model. Since you are using the FM model, you have a .mesh file, but you can also have a .dfsu file with your bathymetry (you can export it in dfsu in the mesh generator). You can then create a new dfs2 from the dfsu file, and then you can use that dfs2 for the toolbox. Generating the dfs2 from the dfsu is pretty straightforward, but let me know if you run into problems.

There are a large number of open source software for tsunami wave simulations specifically intended for this purpose. I will mention here just some but many other are available. Tsunami-HySEA (https://edanya.uma.es/hysea/) a fast and robust code implemented in GPUs; NHWAVE; GeoClaw; NEOWAVE; FUNWAVE; BOSZ; ATFM, Cliff or Celeris among many others.

In Mike Zero go to new and choose to create a GRID SERIES, then choose "from dfsu" file and then it is self explained. By default it will select all the area and will give a coarse resolution, be sure to change the resolution and the number of grids to meet you needs! Good luck!

It seems to me that you want to use MIKE21 to perform you tsunami simulations and do not even think in the possibility to use another numerical model. It is a choice, but it seems not necessarily the best approach. It is clear that you already have MIKE, otherwise just the price you must pay for a license it is high enough as to think in others options (that the reason for proposing open source software). But also MIKE it is not the best code for your purposes. As Christian pointed out MIKE is too diffusive, producing smoothed dying waves as tsunami evolves. All the codes mention above have been extensively tested, benchmarked and validated specifically for tsunami simulations.

I just want to point out that MIKE is difussive if not use correctly. If you use the standard rectangular grid then it is not, and if you use the flexible mesh you can control it, you just need to be aware of it. MIKE has also being used in many tsunami studies, but most of them are not academic studies, so they are not published. I think is as valid as the other models, but of course, there is a big price to pay for the software. But I guess Sham does has the model and already knows how to use it, being the reason why he asks specifically for that model!!! As a note, MIKE is the only model I know that can use do hydrodynamic modeling over a calibrated hydrodynamic model with tides and even together with extreme events such as hurricanes, including also wind waves and even dispersion of contaminants. I may be wrong, there may be other models, but I have not seen any publish studies like combining different processes with a tsunami. Right now we are doing oil spill modeling during tsunami events including tides and winds from extreme events, which is not something straightforward,  but gives very interesting results.

Yes you are correct, I have used MIKE 21 before and shearing your experience to select the software for tsunami model. I guess, I can use MIKE 21 HD (FM) and use smaller mesh close to the shoreline.

Do you know where I can find the parameters for earthquake in North America to use Okada equation to generate the initial surface using Toolbox.

Do you have any published paper about tsunami model or any recommendations.
