I have transfected cell line with an inhibitor of a particular gene. that gene promotes tumor growth. Now I want to check whether the inhibitor has caused change in the tumor growth. So can I do this by staining techniques and comparing it with the control cell line?
May be you can perform immunofluorescence to compare the gene expression with the control one. But why not perform a cell function assay like proliferation assay to check the growth effect after inducing inhibitor?
For gene expression analysis I will perform qPCR. In this case I just want to check general tissue morphology whether there is a change or not and then move onto the gene expression analysis.
If you need to perform histochemical / immunohistochemical stains in the cell culture you can remove the cells (with a trypsin or mechanically). Then, you can prepare a cell block from the cell suspension, similar to the routine cytology specimen procedure.
You could grow the cells on cover slips and stain with routine stains. This will allow you to see changes in cell shape and evaluate mitotic activity.
