I need to start a quite big mouse experiment and have right now F1 mice (parents were bought form a company) as breeding couples. They wont give enough mice though to start the experiment with ONLY mice from the same generation.
So would it be better to bye the left 30% of the mice again (--> I mix F2 and F0) or create new breeding couples with the F2 and use F2 and F3 mice in one experiment.
OR are both solutions not supportable ?
I use NOD SCID mice, so they are quite expensive, which is why I think a lot a bout it.
I would basically test pharmaceuticals on the mice, for 2-4 months though

Generation number should not make a difference if they all have a clean NOD SCID background. For your purpose rather important are the same age and gender depending on the question you want to address. Good luck.
since you are testing the effect of pharmaceuticals and no genetic effects are involved, it does not matter whether you use F1, F2 or F3. For your purpose important criteria are same age and same gender and approximately similar body weight. Good luck.
