Please suggest me some solvents which are non-toxic in which cholesterol powder can be dissolved at 1 mg/ml or less.
Ethanol or triton x100 at 2% can be used to disolve cholesterol,but if it is non toxic in your systeem i am not sure
Any non-toxic liophilic (i.e. liquid oil) solvent may be used. There are no true solutions of cholesterol in aqueous media, only colloids and suspensions may be formed.
I dissolve cholesterol standard (for HPLC analyses) in propanol -2-ol 1% in n-hexane.
One can use low percentage ethanol (less than 5%) for dissolving cholesterol

Cholesterol dissolving solvents are ethanol, methanol, DMF, Ethyl acetate, Chloroform ,acetonitrile ether etc.
