I'm trying to apply a SWOT analysis on my case. I want to know the steps and the procedure. If it be in the field of industry-university collaboration that'll be great. Thanks a lot.
Do a SWOT on the University, and than do the SWOT for the Industry.
Look for points which indicates the need or relation for collaboration or collaborative nature.
Refer to National Skills Survey Report, National Qualification Framework, Industry Statistics on Recruitment - that would give you clarity in defining the strategic relationship backed up with literature review to analyse in depth.
Last point do refer to HR National Report - to relate on the skill set in demand for a specific sector / field / industry.
Hi, my team wrote an analysis of one of our partnerships that you might find interesting although it is not in the SWOT format. Let me know what you think: http://journal.km4dev.org/index.php/km4dj/article/viewFile/166/256
SWOT analysis is fine if you are trying to improve what you have already decided upon. Then you have a sound basis for making the relative comparisons needed for SWOT analysis.
The weakness of so much SWOT analysis is that it produces lists of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This is only the first step of SWOT analysis. Further thinking involves deciding what to do that will
- build on strengths
- fix or minimize weaknesses
- pursue opportunities
- avoid or mitigate threats.
Some take this thinking further by putting together results from each category, such as what opportunities fit with our strengths.
Why not try TOWS Analyses instead. First, see what are the treats that could make this collaboration fail ,i.e. difference in vision, mission, management, org culture , leadership, business process, etc. Second, look for possible way/opportunity of doing collaboration in expected field. Third, see the weakness and strength of both parties in collaboration field. It could give advantage or disadvantage for either parties or both parties. Then, see your wisdom to find win-win solution.
I understand this is cheeky but one of my papers is a SWOT analysis (http://www.researchgate.net/publication/260764089_Implementing_Automotive_Telematics_for_Insurance_Covers_of_Fleets)
There is also a good paper by Prof Koning and Mr van Velzen named "Betting Exchanges: The Future of Sports Betting?" that uses such a technique.

Dominic
