It is a hard question. It all depends on what is your expectation. But, you may consider some used, but remain in good shape, old machine from eBay or some website for used machines.
Multiplexing not essential, ideally 96 samples, although 48 could also work. We use a Strategene MX3000P which has been working really well. We are really looking for something that provides the heightened sensitivity of real-time PCR, with essential capacity and without the high prices that most real-time units carry.
Biorad has excellent choices and they probably do have one or two of the small ones in that range. However, the best thing to do is talk to a sales rep. Sometimes the price will vary depending on your host institution and you may get a more expensive machine at a cheaper price if you are at a smaller/regional/etc school, for example. I have always been presently surprised when I talk to a sales rep about product options as opposed to just clicking and buying.
Good advice on the sales rep,........ but.........not too many sales reps make it to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, which is where we are based. If you know any that would like to visit to demonstrate their wares, however, we'd be extremely happy to see them! ;-)
Applied biosystems machines work very well and even if you do not have local distributor, you can easily import from other countries. You only can select the machine easily as you know well about your needs. The following link may help you to compare different machines according to your requirements.
You have two options 1st option is invitrogen and 2nd is Biorad both company will provide Rt PCR with your range but Eppendorf company will provide RT PCR in 8000$ more expensive then rest of the above two companies.................
Good to hear from you, and hope all is well in Zim. I grew up in the former Belvedere, many moons ago!
We ended up getting the Piko Real. It has not worked out for us at all. It seems to have a much lower sensitivity than our larger Stratagene system, and we do not get very reliable results. The other problem is that the 384 well plates that it uses are extremely fiddly. Far better to invest in something a bit more expensive. Our Stratagene has been amazing, but has just packed up. We are getting a refurbished replacement, but will also soon order a new Agilent AriaMx machine, which with additions will cost about the same as the original Stratagene machine (a little less than USD 30K). I am sure there may be lots of better options now, but we just went for the follow up of the machine that has been of great service for us for about 8 years.
If I rember well, it costs about 10 000 USD I believe, demo of it was working well (good sensitivity) in my lab and 32 samples can be run in one go. The company sells also version for 16 samples. I believe both machines can run in lab and in the field.
It is better to buy BioRad system, it's cost is around Rs. 16,00,000/- (INR). They have specialized lid for cover the wells (patterned) like honey comb structure. So u can buy this by your convenience
Could I ask which one you eventually bought and whether it was a good buy? I am looking to buy a moderate cost equipment for my partners. Also thank you James Peter Legg for sharing your experience, I was almost thinking of the Piko equipment until I saw your comment.
depends on application either two plex or multiplex according to that machine cost is. i have three different systems, Bio-Rad,Mygo and smart Cycler. in my experience all are better but best one is Mygo as it has multiple channel systems and graph curve is so strong, most importantly its cost is too effective and thirdly its portable.
Hi! Am looking for a qPCR machine for 96 or 384 well plate. The MyGo is interesting but is for low amount of samples. Is there any affordable (less than 20000€) qPCRs? Generally I m not looking for multiplexing, but I can consider both. Thanks for the help!
