I am having trouble positioning my research in a paradigm.
My study is on exploring consumers satisfaction with accessibility of pathology services (a referred service in Australia) and interest in direct access testing.
I am proposing utilising a survey based on the framework of access developed by Levesque et al. The data being qualitative in nature will be coded to allow quantifiable comparisons to be made.
Like many PhD students before me, the more I read, the more confused I become!
Is this a pragmatic exploratory study located in the pragmatic paradigm?
Can anyone provide me some guidance?

Pragmatism is a paradigm that is based on research that usually uses more than one methodology/method (i.e. mixed methods) with the intention of action and application and promotes 'intersubjectivity'. It doesn't sound like a good fit for your study which uses a single approach and doesn't seem to match Rorty's seminal views. Before I could answer further - you would have to clarify something for me. You say that your data will be qualitative in nature and you are looking to quantify it - do you really mean that your data will be quantitative - rather than qualitative?

thanks for your views. You've got me thinking maybe I should be using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods study as there is a lack of previous research in the field. Using patient satisfaction survey to obtain quant data followed by qual interviews.
Definitely more reading and thinking required.
Using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods approach is a design, rather than a paradigm.
