I am trying to simulate a simple pipe flow with conductive fluid under the influence of a constant magnetic field.
I went through the MHD module of fluent, but failed to set up the problem correctly.
If anyone has done MHD simulations with CFD solvers, please guide me.

This can be done a lot easily using MHD model in OpenFoam. Fluent can be a pain when you want to write udf's. Hence i suggest you look at the hartmann flow example in OpenFoam for this :)

I tried to manipulate MHD model of Fluent, but I could not do it. Therefore, I switched to OpenFOAM too. It is much easier.

If you want to just simulate a pipe flow, fluent does work, but if you want to modify its module it could be a little difficult.
Can you explain more about your case. Do you want to impel flow to move in a pipe by the Lorentz force?

My case is simple and I want to simulate something like flow in a backstep channel where magnetic field is acting on the region near the backstep.
The objective is to see effect of magnetic field on separation.
I am trying to code this in Matlab as of now but if I can run in CFD solvers, I can very easily switch to 3D geometry

In Fluent we need to use the transient solver. Below is a small benchmark (same as openfoam example 2.3 Mhd flow of a liquid), where the effect of the magnetic field is visible on the lower image which shows a flatter profile and lower velocity in the centre.
