I'm analyzing a simple tube welded to a steel plate
(Attached) and I want to get the variation of the bending stress along the tube using Abaqus. As I understand S11, S22 and S33 gives the direct stress along x,y,z axes and not providing the bending stress. Appreciate your help !

you can create new coordinate Systems sna convert the results in those systems. In this way you can have basically all what you need. In your specific case I suggest cylindrical coordinate system. Then in you want the bending stress along the thickness, you can plot the stress in tua axial direction s33 in the new reference and creating a path with the nodes you want to mesure.

Thanks for your reply. I need to get the bending stress not along the thickness of the tube but along the tube starting from the joint. The doubt I have is which one gives the bending stress in abaqus? I manually calculated using Mc/I and I want to see whether the abaqus gives the same values in order to verify my model. I applied a load in X direction as a concentrated load at the top of the tube and S22 value gives approximate value to the manually calculated value. Could you please explain a little bit further about how to get the bending stress to this case. Does S22 provide bending stress?

Hi Yashodhya.
Basically it seems that your X axis is aligned in the direction of the length of your beam; if this is the case, S22 is basically giving you the principal stress in that direction. I can see from your FEA image that if you are applying a horizontal load at the top of the tube, you will cause a bending moment at the bottom of the tube, so basically your stresses are coming from bending in which case principal stress S22 will be similar to Sxx (Mc/I) on the top layers of the cross section. Remember that in bending shear stresses are maximum on the neutral axis.
