I'm a beginner in Abaqus. I'm working on Finite Element model in Abaqus for a steel tube to plate connection with a fillet weld (7/16 x 1/4) in order to get the stresses along the tube. Further welding material has also penetrated into the plate. Can anybody direct me how to model the weld geometry in Abaqus? Or can I use interaction properties in order to get accurate results? 2 Figures are attached. Appreciate your comments

To simulate the weld in the ABAQUS, it might be first clarify the function of the model. In general, if the research emphasis is put to the overall load-deformation behaviour of the connection you are working on, recent research progress indicate that neglecting the effect of welds by “merge” in the assembly is an alternative, which also results in acceptable accuracy. As for the “interaction”, you can use “tie” or connector properties too.
However, if you need to carefully study the behaviour of the weld, such as fracture simulation, it will be important to model the geometry of the welds. In particular, you may use solid elements to simulate the welds and assign special material properties to the welds. You might find more information about this by trying exploring some research articles on ductile fracture of metal structures or structural steel.

You are not the first person trying the welding simulation, You have some alternatives:
1) You can draw the complete piece, with the fillet included, and you will have an approximate mechanical behavior of the system, but, without specific analysis over the welding.
2) You can search in scientific papers about the welding discretization, including the materials interface, the heat affected zone and the welding material. Is so hard to obtain this discretization from theoretical approach, my recomendation is to use a similar joint and, using metalographical analysis, you can dimensionate de diferent welding componets and zones.

, you can use it and compare the analysis and results to bring your model to Abaqus.
