you need prepare 2 liters of a 1.75 m phosphate buffer at pH 7.8 how would do it using the relevant
sodium salts of phosphate ? further , what would the concentrations of each ionic form be in your completd buffer?
To prepare the buffer of the question, the following procedure must be followed:
1. Place 1.5 L of distilled water in an appropriate container.
2. Dissolve 746.198 g of Na2HPO4.7H2O and 98.764 g of NaH2PO4.H2O.
3. Adjust the pH to the desired value with HCl or NaOH.
4. Complete with distilled water up to a volume of 2 L.
The concentrations will be:
[HPO42-] = 1.392 M
[H2PO4-] = 0.358 M
A pKa of 7.21 was used. An Excel file with calculations is attached
