I do not know if Ras is too far upstream but if anybody has any papers or insight that would be greatly appreciated... If Ras mutations would not be considered part of c-myc oncogene let me know! Thanks.
Both Ras (including the H, N, and K) and Myc are proto-oncogenes. Their constitutive activation in normal cells (due to mutations in the gene or gene amplification) promotes cell cycle progression. Therefore, these are called oncogenes. See paper below concerning the role of Ras-signaling in the regulation of c-Myc.
