I have successfully isolated octocorallia (soft coral) DNA but do not know how to exclusively obtain the genomic DNA sans zooxanthellae. There are no 'sure bets' in terms of obtaining azooxanthellae tissue from these organisms making subsequent next generation sequencing very challenging. Molecular studies on this group are incredibly difficult for these reasons. There are some protocols proposed but nothing conclusive. Any comments or suggestions please?
