I would like to know what are some bacteria that are present in the soil samples of high altitude land approx 3000m Above sea level. While isolating the bacteria from soil samples of this site what kinds of bacteria are to be expected to be isolated?

Very interesting question Hriush. Some of the bacteria isolated from high altitude are : Acinetobacter johnsonii, Serratis marcescens, Cytopahga etc ( Source : Fernanadez at al . 2006 Appli.Environ. Microbiol. 72: 7857 -7863). Earl and Karl identified Strptococcus and E. coli as two dominant bacteria from feces from birds and animals. , but failed to establish , whether or not these bacteria are pathogenic in nature. Studies carried out at Andean lakes above 4400m above msl (Dib eta l . 2009, Recent. Pat. Antiinfect.Drug. 4: 66-76) showed 56 types of bacteria isolated and they had antibiotic resistance . these studies showed diversity in bacteria even at high altitude as well. Some researchers even claim presence of such bacteria at such high altitude cat as nuclei for cloud formation and later precipitation .

I our experience in the Andes, usually we get Actinomycetes, Firmicutes and Proteobacteria, of course it will depend on the culture media and specific growth characteristics
