Regarding teaching----This usually done at the end of the academic year after the final examination to evaluate the outcome of the teaching course and reconsidered before the begining of the next new academic year to plan a new approach of teaching and learning if the assessemnet have sign that the student failed the goals that were set for them

There would also an annual updates in the asigned curriculum to meet current learning and teaching objectives of each subject

Regarding teaching : yes this assessemnet usually done at the end of the course and after the final examination and reconsidered before the begining of the new academic year to plan a new (if any) approach of learning and teaching method IF the student were find not to achieve the goals or aims set for that course

Reaeach activity is also assessed and evaluated at the begining of the new academic year to observe if there are any obstacles and try to solve them.

Today, research is highly complex and specialized. One of the first tasks of research in this field is to know all recent publications in order to inform oneself about the current state of the discussion. In this way, one acquires a knowledge that only those (few) colleagues in the international arena have who conduct research in the same field. Thus, major upheavals in theory and research results that affect one's own questions are normally not to be expected. One tries to get in contact with all colleagues who do research in a similar field. This is a manageable number, usually. To be sure, you organize a conference on the research topic, invite all institutions and researchers in question.

In summa: Researchers think a lot in advance. The results may well differ. This makes research interesting and innovative

At the end of every academic year I schedule an "appointment" with myself, and I honestly (1) review my yearly professional goals and evidence of meeting them that I had set for myself in research, teaching, and service, and (2) set new goals for the next year and identify ways to measure progress in meeting them. By the way, my institution also reviews my professional performance every year by use of a small and rotating faculty review committee of my up-to-date curricula vita and my learners' course evaluations. That is not as meaningful (or helpful!) a process, since the reviewers of that committee vary per year and by understanding of what evidence applies to the assessment question. So it goes in higher ed in the US (much activity; much of it simply to show activity).

Of course yes! I do assess my achievements based on two major criteria:

1. Based on the goals I set in the previous year

2. Based on how and/or where the science is progressing to

It always makes sense when you evaluate your achievements based on your goals. That's the only thing that should make you happy. Otherwise, evaluating success without having a benchmark is just nonsense. Additionally, evaluating achievements based on your goals are even much better if you do a sort of evaluations on the current status of the science as well. If your achievement is far below where the science is, it's just a movement....not a progress. So, I should make sure that I have made a visible progress, not a movement. That's how I evaluate my achievements anyway.

Of course we all should do. It is a part of our yearly assessment for Key Performance Indicator (KPI). Look back for what we have achieved and reflect what could we could do better. Planning is the key!

Definitely, it is important to reflect what objectives achieved and what you can still accomplish or improve. My yearly Individual Performance Management (IPMs) in measured against 5 criteria, namely Academic leadership, Tuition, Research, Community Engagement and Academic citizenship. I reflected after signing -off on each one where I can do better.

After waiting almost a year for the archive documents that are now there, I can pick up the thread again to continue working on my main project. In between you do something different. But at some point you want to be done with one thing. When it's finished, published and accessible to all interested people arties, it's already become historical again. That's quite normal, just as you, as a scientist, also feel historical when you've worked in this profession for 50 years. The historicization process is progressing, that's the good thing about science, that what was once new and important can later be seen in relative terms, because the results fit into the overall process of cultural and scientific transmission and progress.

Absolutely. This happens both for formal reasons, as it is part of assessement and informal, for personal-professional development. In fact, I think some colleagues use it for research purposes, when suitable and ethically acceptable.
