I want to know if there are any criteria when selecting the type of animal (wistar, sprague dawley, albino) and even gender (male/female) for diabetic, alzheimer's, cancer, hypertensive, or any other type of particular disease model.
Acually sir, i am planning to work on parkinson model and as well as alzehimer model , so i want to know is there any criteria to select animal or any prpoer reference which can tell which species of t rats i shoulud used for my studies
I would look at the litterature around the topic of research. If there are no good publications using a certain strain of rat with youd disease of interest, I would definately exclude it. Those strains that come up most often in both parkinsons and alzehimer disease would be the strain of choice. I am no expert in Neuro science, but I have worked alongside a group who were using Wistar rats very successfully for parkinsons and onther neurological research.
