Inflammatory breast cancer is one of the most aggressive breast cancers with 10 year survival rates at ~5%, regardless of treatment strategies (surgery alone, surgery + chemo, surgery + radiology, or the trimodal strategy). Many doctors delay diagnosis by assuming mastitis even though this is a rare occurance in nonlactating women. Are there international standards for general practitioners and breast care specialist to follow for women presenting with unilateral or bilateral breast inflammation? Including time frames?
