As the commercial RNAlater is not cheap, we tried "homemade RNAlater". Recipes for it can be easily found by googling "homemade RNA-later", but there are no explanations about the crystals that appear when adding 70g of ammonium sulfate. When the solution was heated they dissapeared, but after cooling down they reappear once again. Is it normal? How can we avoid this crystal formation? Should we warm the homemade RNAlater solution before using it?

Finally, I would appreciate if anyone has compared both RNAlaters, the commercial and the handmade one, do they work equally?
