Any suggestion of solution I can use to preserve fouled FO membrane that will be characterized later. I want a solution that wont affect the foulants on the membrane.
To preserve a fouled forward osmosis membrane, it can be stored short-term in deionized water at 4°C to prevent microbial growth, with regular water replacement. For long-term preservation, a solution containing 0.01–0.1% sodium azide can be used to inhibit microbial growth, or 1–2% formaldehyde with caution during handling. Glycerol at a concentration of 10–20% can also be used to maintain membrane moisture and prevent fouling layer drying. It is recommended to avoid drying or storage at high temperatures to prevent damage to the membrane or changes in the fouling characteristics.
