I use Drucker-Prager yield criterion in Abaqus for concrete. There are "angle of friction" and "dilation angle" parameters in there. As far as I know, angle of friction resembles Mohr-Coulomb parameter (Φ) but i wonder dilation angle's mean. What is dilation angle? Can anyone help me?

In my opinion, if you intend to use a failure criterion for concrete in Abaqus, it is preferable to use `Concrete Damaged Plasticity`; this is a modified Drucker-Prager criterion. In this case, the parameter called `Dilatation angle` represents the angle between the failure surface (defined through the other parameters of the CDP model) and the hydrostatic axis (please refer to the picture from this link: http://academy.3ds.com/jp/projects/showroom/go/project/fea-for-formless-concreting/gallery/?view=862). The physical meaning of this parameter would be the internal friction angle of the concrete material. The suggested values for this parameter are in the range of 25º și 40º. Also, it is known that increased values of this parameter lead to optimal result for low degrees of concrete confinement ( for more information please refer to the following article: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1644966512601058).

The
angle of dilation controls an amount of plastic volumetric strain developed
during plastic shearing and is assumed constant during plastic yielding.The value of ψ = 0 corresponds to the volume preserving deformation while in shear. for soils the dilatency angle can be estimated as friction angle -30.
Mohr - Coulomb or Drucker - Prager yield functions better represent particulate materials like ballast/ soil. For concrete, concrete damage plasticity works well.
Depending on the size of your speciment ,I advice to use a modified Drucker-Prager Capped Plasticity model for concrete to represent the plasticity zone in the concrete failure curve, however, when you get to the fracture zone, you will need a brittle fracture model as the failure curve is no longer a plastic one, but rather a brittle one. For small size specimens, you may be able to get the full failure curve using a plasticity model, but as the specimen size increases, the brittle fracture model will give a better representation
I have the following Questions:
1 - what do you guys suggest for brick modelling? Is Drucker Prager a good choice for brick?
2 - If i want to model brick by Drucker Prager Model so what should be the value of dilatancy factor (from 0 - 1) shall i take?
