I have performed a simple 3D cantilever beam analysis in ABAQUS/Explicit. I carry out a major tensile force at the end of the beam, so i can see the fracture. In other words, the beam is divided into two parts. However, the analysis continues until whole forces are applied. But in my opinion, the analysis must end when the beam split. The question is this. Why this analysis never doesn’t stop although there is an entirely collapse. What is the meaning of this situation? I wonder the answer of this question. It is crucial for me? If anybody can help me, i will really great appreciate.
Computer software generally can not take decision by their own so you have to define the boundary conditions and criterion. Once you put define your constrains or boundary conditions then it will work as per your requirement.
If you use explicit, your simulation is dynamic, so the two separated parts will move each on their own according to Newton's law etc.
Whether it is wise to simulate this problem dynamically (and explicitly) is a different question (the answer is probably "no"...).

Thanks for your replies. Actually i run a more sophisticated model. But Abaqus always continues to solving even there is a so simple model. Even parts of the model collapses the software always running. In addition, no matter i use implicit or explicit solution method. I encounter same problem. My goal is to determine the collapse. What should i do do you think?
