I have prepared a microgel (solvent water) and during the process I have added NaOH to maintain the pH of the solution as 12. Microgels have formed. Now when I do DLS experiments I saw that the counts were very high, so if I want to dilute my microgel sample, should I dilute it in water or in NaOH solution?
I would suggest a way around it. I do not know which brand your instrument is but you may use another version of it which will have a confined detection unit for micro-particle analysis. Your method will be also handy but be careful about the stability of your particle during the dilution process.

Hi Mithra, wat instrument u are using? Instruments like zeta sizer u can change the attenuation position and number to reduce the count rate without diluting the sample.
Diar Mitra:You need to dilute the solution with pH = 12. The magnitude and the Brownian motion of the particles of the gel may change if you dilute it with water. And changes the refractive index of the medium.

What is your physical concentration of material? What are you attempting to learn about the material? An alternative answer is to lower the laser power, or put a neutral density filter between the sample and the detector.
