I am having multiple technical problems with ATCC and their customer support is truly horrendous. Does anyone know of any alternative company that can sell viruses and cell culture in US other than them?
Sorry to hear about your negative experience w/ ATCC.
There is a company in North Carolina (Carolina Biological; www.carolina.com) that sells biologicals such as bacteria, some viruses & other microbes. However, they mainly sell their products for use in high-school and college teaching labs. For example, they sell bacteriophages and tobacco mosaic, and perhaps other viruses. I don't think they sell the more "exotic" viruses or cells for use in tissue culture in research labs. You can check their website, but my guess is that if you're looking some research-grade organism(s), they probably will not have it.
What you might try is to check the literature for academic labs that work with the organism(s) you need, then contact them to see if they will send you cultures for your work. An industrial lab (e.g., drug company, etc.) will probably not do this, but an academic lab might be willing to help you. I have had success doing this in the past.
Thank you very much Bill for your answer, as I expected they are monopoly and unfortunately the only in the market as far as I know. Unfortunately I am no longer in academia but moved to industry so would need a stable vendor to be able to pay on time. but thanks for your answer and recommendation.
Do ECACC trade in the usa. In the UK they are handled by Sigma and at one time by LGC ( laboratory of the government Chemist) but they might be worth looking up
Paul Rutland I did reach out to them, and they do have a collaboration with a company called Microbiologistics but not sure if they will manage to deliver to US or not. I completely forgot about the BEI option as well! but not sure if they do provide for industry or not! at any rate I am still in search for an industrial alternative for biological reagents within US
