yellow sticky trap is used in field to attract insects by their colour due to which insects stick on them. I came across about the blue sticky trap. What is the difference in function of a yellow sticky trap and blue sticky trap?
A great deal of literature exists surrounding the use and effects of different coloured sticky traps. When using sticky traps there are many factors to consider, including size, colour, placement, height and even orientation of the trap (see Article Influence of Sticky Trap Color and Height Above Ground on Ca...
)
Different coloured traps, such as yellow and blue, may attract different species / families / orders given differences in colour sensitivity of eye photo-receptors. There may also be physiological attractions to certain colours.
I would imagine that yellow traps are likely more attractive than darker coloured traps such as blue, grey and black...but this may depend on what you are wanting to catch.
Yellow is a general attractant for a range of insects. As such, yellow sticky traps are widely used to monitor pests such as for example whitefly and moths. Blue colored sticky traps are marketed for the monitoring of thrips, as they are particularly attracted to this color.
I strongly agree with Felix, blue traps are used for monitoring and mass trapping thrips however yellow traps are used for aphids, whiteflies and others insects. Yellow traps are not selective and can trap pests as well as auxiliary fauna.
