Such proteins have various oxidation states of Nitrogen and Carbon within prefabricated amino acids - a survival advantage for times when negentropy, favorable redox potentials, and energy are not available. Essential amino acids are of even more value to the cell under conditions selecting against auxotrophy.
Your question brought this question to mind: Why is it advantageous for an egg cell to store amino acids as yolk protein rather than as free amino acids? One possibility is that a concentrated solution of amino acids would have too high an osmotic strength. In this case, it cannot be said that the protein has no function, as in your question, if its function is amino acid storage in a low-osmolarity state. The negative entropy (connection of the amino acids into chains) is, in a sense, a byproduct of the storage function. I suppose the same point could be made about carbohyrate storage polymers such as starch and glycogen, and polyphosphates for orthophosphate storage.
I wonder whether organisms that live in very high osmolarity conditions would find it more advantageous to store surplus low-molecular-weight biomolecules in monomeric form in order to help balance the external and internal osmolarities and also to avoid having to use up scarce water to hydrolyze storage polymers.
