My partner and I are writing a paper on how environmental factors affect athletic performance. The sport that we are tackling, specifically, is soccer/football. In our paper, we are looking at the factors (mainly air pollution and levels of urbanization) that could affect a player's athletic performance.

If ever an "optimal environment" would be created such that their athletic performance is at their peak, would this actually be a disadvantage? If ever the athletes would be training in an "optimal environment" would their athletic performance decrease if ever they are taken out of that environment?
