In this world of fast move, basic science researchers are not getting enough fund to complete their research. They are quiting for odd jobs.
Why young researchers are getting frustrated and disappointed?
Agreed they should try harder and also need passion & perseverance to sustain them. Road blocks / hindrances on the research path are given things, but how a researcher dealing with them will determine success or failure. Sometimes, only through demonstrating passion & perseverance, a young researcher knows how close s/he is at the finishing line.
In modern scenario science has become like any other " profession ", where one expects monetary profits (patents, awards etc.) in exchange of the hard work put into the research efforts, there comes the issue of cost effectiveness, more often than not a research fails to give desired result regardless of effort invested, without results there is no profit in this venture, but an odd job guarantees a salary, a livelihood, a sense of security and in some sense, stability. That is the reason the frustration and quitting midway in most cases, in these times everything should have a monetary value otherwise it is deemed useless, be it a research degree or a publication in a good journal. How many of modern researchers take to science only for the love and passion for it, a small number, most of them take to it for more materialistic reasons. If there is no money and no other incentives, they have no reason to stick to the discipline pointlessly.
Why ? A true researcher should not be frustrated . Funding is a great crisis starting from masters to postdoc level . But where there is will there is way .
Obviously guidance with every respect may minimize this problem .Choice of Institution also plays an important role .
Need to be more harder and govt should form the policy to provide support and proper facility for research in county particularly to young scientist. More over family support is also needed.
MORE THAN ANYTHING IN LIFE ONE NEEDS RECOGNITION AND RESPECT
Irrespective of age one should be encouraged and acknowledged for their research work when it is not done...people will lose interest in doing good work.
Specially if this happens at the begining of any one's carrier they will lose complete faith in doing good research.
It's very important to understand the reality why the researchers choose a certain directions of a scientific research. If the direction is as per the passion of the researcher he/she will try hard to come over the difficult time whereas, the other case will be different. The less funding is common issue in all spheres of research more common among under developed countries because the no connectivity of research with consumers market or business hubs. It's very important to device a policy by the science ministry of certain countries and then follow with his true sense.
