Hi all, i am new to the SEM imaging system. this is a image of an aluminium sample. any idea how or why these Black shades are formed in SEM secondary electron image?
It's a result of so called charging effect. Some non-conductive piece of contamination got charged by electron beam and creates artifact. To get rid of it you need to wash your specimen in alcohol/acetone/etc or coat it with conductive coating. Or just choose cleaner place.
