Nickel is austenite stabilizer and chromium is ferrite stabilizer.

Stainless steel 304 have both elements (the percentage of Cr is bigger that Ni). So, why SS 304 is austenitic not ferrtic?

and what happened at the atomic scale when adding Ni the unit cell structure converted from bcc to fcc?
