We didnt even mention it at my BSc and Msc study in molecular biology, I only heard of it in context of sensor material, dna origami and nano DNA senors. Is this technique new? or it was under patent?
also a lot of publications conserdnign RCA are published in Open Acess, few of them in reputable such as Nature or Royal Chemical society, and mostly those are reviews or connected with material science. What is the reason for not being widly use as PCR?
I often wonder the same, but my opinion is that a ladder amplified from one target looks surprisingly like any other ladder. Specific PCR where presence of a specific band as well as of a specific molecular weight gives more observational data to confirm the specificity of the positive result. A ladder is a ladder. Additionally, if you wish to sequence the resulting band it is more straight forward to do so. For quick field tests RCA has its merits and they may come into more wide use in the future.
