Since ending 2013 I have read that there was a discovery of a new (the fifth) serotype of dengue in Asia, however, no published specific paper on it has become public. In fact many short notes, comments and letters discuss that finding, but the original research or the study has not yet been published.
Apparently Nikos Vasilakis has made the discovery, but has not yet shown in any scientific journal.

I guess it is because only one, i.e. a single isolate was found and described, scientist have have combed everywhere in the environment imaginable but has not found another trace of the virus
I was at a recent GRC conference and somebody from UTMB presented a scoping review of characterization and the search in during the conference
From what I read in the paper, there is only one case with the infection reported as caused by Den5, some other potential cases could have very mild symptomatology. Indeed this finding can have serious implications in vaccine development and vector control. I think right now what is needed is some seroepidemiological surveys in the area of Sarawak (Malaysia?) to identify the proportion of population with exposure to this serotype. The other elements that is required is to confirm the nature of this serotype: based on non- primates in sylvatic settings and "jumping" into human hosts in recent years. Research is needed to confirm the epidemiological implications of these findings.
I agree with you Eduardo, but there is more than one year. An in addition to epidemiological studies, the phylogenetic study should be published. I think.
Certainly, there is not a follow up in this report, the phylogenetic study would provide more clues about this serotype. I wonder why teams working in vaccine trials in Asia don't seem to be aware of the need to incorporate this findings in their studies.

I am characterizing the interferon antagonism of several novel flaviviruses. I contacted Nikos Vasilakis directly and asked him about the sequence data of this new virus, as it is relevant to my project and I would like to include this new virus in my panel. He responded and said they are working on the publication and it can be expected in the next coming months; this was end of Dec 2014. So hopefully soon they will publish the sequence and manuscript.
