I have installed Biolinux 6 based on ubuntu 10.04. However, sound is not working even after installation of alsa utilis, alsamixergui and adding of "options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1 model=hp" line in alsa-base.conf. Why is it happening and how can I solve this problem?
I'm using LinuxMint 13. It is based on Ubuntu and has the same issue. The plus side is that it keeps me from wasting time finding lectures to play while working. The bad thing is that it keeps me from listening to lectures while working.
What is your audio card?
post the output from the command

If you connect through HDMI cable the second site would be useful.
Also are you using alsa? Have you checked the obvious stuff- correct card being selected, no mute, etc....
Reinstall sound driver & if u want to reinstall ubuntu then use ubuntu ultimate edition
Thank you all for your suggestions. I have switched to ubuntu based distro and its working well. I use alsa and my problem is solved.
