Goldman tonometer measures pressure by calculating the force needed to flatten the defined area in cornea (Pressure=Force/Area). So, flattening the surface of soft contact lens with Goldman probe would mean overestimation of pressure (because you would need more force to flatten the rigid (relatively) surface of contact lens).
Researchers have found conflicting results regarding the relationship between IOP measurement with or without contact lens, due to changes in corneal hydration and bio-mechanical properties of cornea Although in one study it is documented that they have found that presence of soft contact lens does not modify the accuracy of pressure measurement.High values do occur, however when the refraction of the lens exceeds eight diopters.
