Answer related to metabolism of bacteria would be appreciated. I suppose it has a relation with the Carbon- Phosphorous - Nitrogen ratios as this ratio is different for aerobic and anaerobic but a detailed answer would be appreciated
There are some aspects that I see as advantageous in using COD which are:
- It is always bigger than the DBO so if your system efficiently removes the COD, it will certainly have removed the DBO very well
- COD corresponds to the fraction of total organic matter present in the effluent and BOD only the biodegradable fraction
- COD takes only a maximum of 2 or 3 hours to do and COD takes 5 days.

In aerobic system (low depth) we have an important phytoplankton development because of the light penetration, which represent an important source of organic matter. I think this is affecting the treatment performances. but maybe it's not the only factor that influences
