Conferences have research papers published usually related to new topics especially high quality conferences have very strict criteria regarding freshness of topics. Once the ideas and accepted widely then it usually become journal paper. Though in computer science filed the papers once published at conference of high repute are considered equivalent to impact factor journal papers. Web of Science database provides CPCI to see the impact of the conference in place of impact factor.

Frankly, I personally have moved away from the conferences and the best publications in good magazines directly

I have two experiences in two conferences I do not like to mention

Unfortunately, to date, my research, which I participated in at one of the conferences, has not been published despite its acceptance and discussion during the Conference

With respect this issue is not general, but rather my experience

Dear Azhar, thank you very much for contributing to my question. I agree with you regarding the conferences in our area but  there are very high reputed conference with acceptance rate of 25% and less and it is very prestigious if your paper has been accepted. The main benefits of the conference is that you can interact with expert people in your research area.

For your case I think of the paper is accepted and presented in the conference then it should be published. My idea is to focus more on journals in future.

A conference paper that is accepted for a conference is going through some screening committee, but only few of the conference papers, usually the excellent ones, are accepted for publication in a journal, so, it is not possible to award an impact factor to a conference paper. This is even more understood if you consider the way an impact factor is calculated.

Dear Avishag, thank you for answering my question. I totally agree with you but some of these good papers will not have the chance to be published in journal and they have very high number of citations.

Hi Khalil,

It depends what kind of citations. The Google Scholar citations are very different from the citations that are indexed in bibliographic databases. If an academic promotion is considered, than the databases citations are taken into account, not necessarily the GS citations.
