The data doesn't include anything for Lithium Ion batteries or hydro. Remember, Tesla just installed a 139MWh battery in Australia. Tesla also installed a 80MWh battery in California recently. Tesla is not alone in this. There are many start-ups getting into the battery storage market. There are other large battery installations in the works too. South Korea and China both have large, 100 MW scale installations being built. No doubt, Australia will install more batteries too.

However, by far the largest energy storage today is pumped hydro-electric. Many of these installations can store more than 10GWh of energy. The facility at Bath County Pumped Storage station (USA) exceeds 30GWh. Any battery based technology pales in comparison (today). Hopefully, that will change.

I'd say the status of energy storage is very fluid at the moment and it's about to 'explode' as Lithium Ion technology improves and becomes ever cheaper. There are other 'grid scale' storage schemes likely to come on line in the near future.

Dear Patric, thank you very much for your answer. I totally agree with you " the status of energy storage is very fluid at the moment and it's about to 'explode' ", the technology is fast changing. however, the compressed air technology and the hydro storage still have the largest capacity.
